New to Yin Yoga?

Yin and Yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that described opposite forces which are interconnected.

Incorporating Yin Yoga into your fitness routine is an excellent way to achieve balance between your energetic workouts which may include the more dynamic forms of traditional (“Yang”) yoga. While traditional yoga aims at strengthening muscles, the passive and prolonged poses of Yin Yoga focus on relaxing muscles and targeting the body’s deep connective tissues—such as tendons, ligaments, bones, joint capsules, and the fascia enveloping the muscles.

  • What to bring?

Your own yoga mat. If you don’t have a mat, please contact us before the class date, and we will make sure a mat is ready for you when you arrive.

We also have blocks, straps, bolsters, kneepads and blankets available for you to use for free.

    What to wear?

Yoga apparel or clothing that you’re free and easy to move in.

  • Please plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes before your first class in order to get acquainted with the space and class set up.

Please turn off cell phones and other electronic devices during class.

  • Hydration Guidelines:

Water Intake Before and After Class:

    • Pre-Class: Drink water 1-2 hours before Yin practice to aid detoxification.

    • Post-Class: Hydrate after class to replenish fluids and enhance recovery, as Yin Yoga helps hydrate connective tissues.

    Water During Class:

    • Avoid drinking water during class to maintain focus and support prolonged poses.

    Key Considerations:

    • Mindfulness: Drinking can disrupt breathing and concentration.

    • Physical Comfort: A full stomach may cause discomfort during stretches.

    • Distraction: Reaching for water can divert attention from practice.

If feeling dizzy or thirsty, sip water during transitions instead of during deep stretches.

  • Breathwork & Meditation

Our Yin Yoga sessions integrate breathwork and guided meditation to initiate the relaxation response.

Quiet Space for Focus & Mindfulness

Yin Yoga naturally encourages a meditative practice. Maintaining a tranquil environment during sessions is crucial, as conversations can interrupt the focus needed for mindful awareness of both body and breath.

    Improved Body Awareness

Yin Yoga emphasizes holding poses closer to the ground, which helps reduce tension, alleviate stress and anxiety, enhance flexibility, and promote overall well-being. This practice encourages deeper stretches, allowing students to become aware of subtle sensations within their bodies. Engaging in dialogue can detract from this enriching experience.

    Pose Variations & Props

Yin Yoga provides several variations that depend on the pose's target area and, importantly, the skeletal differences between individuals.

In class, props such as bolsters, blocks, straps, and blankets are utilized to enhance comfort, deepen stretches, and make the poses more accessible.

Prepare to feel relaxed and rejuvenated after this practice!
